The hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey is set to return for a new series, according to the News Of The World.

The paper reports that BBC bosses are in talks with the show’s stars James Corden and Ruth Jones about bringing the show back, following speculation that this year’s special Christmas episode would be the last.

However, another series is reported to be in the pipeline – with the four main stars, who also include Matthew Horne and Ruth Jones, tipped to get a 20 per cent pay rise.

“The Beeb do not want to let a hit like Gavin and Stacey go after just one series on primetime,” a source told the paper.

“They have had meetings with James and Ruth which have gone well. Ideally, they want a new series but may get a few hour-long specials over the next few years.”

“This show has the potential to become an Only Fools And Horses for the younger generation.

The seasonal special is on BBC1 at 10pm on Christmas Eve.
