Gavin and Stacey actors James Corden and Mathew Horne are working on a new sketch show, it has been confirmed.
The six-part BBC3 series has a working title of Horne and Corden Have Come and is being developed as a traditional comedy entertainment show in the style of Morecambe and Wise.
James and Mat will appear in front of a studio audience as themselves, before performing some of their new characters live.
“We want to make a show for the new generation that will be similar to what The Mary Whitehouse Experience was for us when we were growing up; sketches and characters that everyone’s talking about the next day,” says the show’s producer, Ben Cavey.
“This is a very exciting commission for Tiger Aspect,” added the company’s Head of Comedy, Sophie Clarke-Jervoise. “In Gavin and Stacey, Mat and James have proved themselves to be Britain’s best new comedy partnership and we’re very much looking forward to presenting their brilliant new characters on BBC3.”
The boys are likely to take their new series on the road initially, in order to see how audiences react to the material. They will be performing at five student venues in the next month, according to the Sun newspaper.
“We’d like to make a really good sketch show and we want it to be the best we can,” Mat was quoted as saying. “We’re taking our time to test it out.”
