Will George Clooney be making a return to ER after all?

Despite repeated denials that George’s character Dr Doug Ross will be back on the wards of County General in the last season of the medical TV series, former co-star Noah Wyle says the megastar may be making a final surprise appearance.

“From what I heard, George said, ‘Absolutely,’ schedule permitting,” Noah told TV Guide.

George’s publicist Stan Rosenfield said he had no new comment to make on the rumour, although he stated that his client is aware of Noah’s remarks. Meanwhile, NBC, the US network which airs the show, also had no comment.

“This story is not confirmed,” a representative said.

There’s also no news on whether Dr Doug’s on-screen wife, Nurse Hathaway, played by Julianna Margulies, would be returning. She and George left the show in 2000.

“I would love to see a little view into their life in Seattle,” said Noah, who will himself be filming some episodes of ER’s final series. “Or wherever the hell they’re living now.”

Noah also revealed that Eriq La Salle, who played Dr Peter Benton in the series, will be returning, reprising his role in a subplot with Noah’s character, Dr John Carter.
