It's biscuits, not cakes in the first week
The Great British Bake Off traditionally kicks off with Cake Week – but not this year!
In a big twist, the 12 hopefuls will instead have to produce incredible bickies as the C4 competition opens with Biscuit Week.
Speaking about Biscuit Week, judge Paul Hollywood teases: “The showstopper is something worth seeing – I’d never heard of anything like this before.”
Cake Week fans though can be rest assured that Cake Week will be taking place later in the series.
Meanwhile, there’s a couple of firsts in this series with Vegan Week and Danish Week!
Vegan Week will see the bakers face the challenge of baking without eggs and milk. Among the dishes they’ll be serving up are chickpea meringues. Presenter Noel Fielding says: “I know a lot of vegans – it’s nice we’re doing something for those guys, isn’t it?”
Meanwhile, in honour of host Sandi Toksvig’s Danish heritage this year’s Great British Bake Off will include Danish Week. “It’s a fabulous triumph, and I’m going to present the whole thing in Danish, which could be tricky,” says Sandi. “There’ll be a lot of Danish bunting.”
Sandi adds that she has a great time with Paul, Noel and Prue Leith. “We’ve become the world’s most dysfunctional family, we’ve stopped being polite to each other!”
The Great British Bake Off begins on Tuesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
