Grieving Matt Lucas quits theatre role

Matt Lucas has reportedly quit his West End stage role following the death of his ex-civil partner Kevin McGee.

Kevin – who Little Britain star Matt divorced 10 months ago – was found hanged at his Edinburgh flat on Monday, according to reports.

The 32-year-old died on Monday after leaving a suicide note on Facebook that read: “Kevin McGee thinks death is much better than life.”

The TV producer posted the message at 5am on Monday and was found three hours later by police who forced their way into his flat.

Producers of Prick Up Your Ears confirmed that Matt – who ‘married’ Kevin in a civil ceremony in 2006 – had left the play until further notice.

Matt’s agent said the actor had no comment to make.

Earlier, The Sun reported that Matt had been ‘utterly destroyed’ by the news, according to a source.

A friend told The Sun: “Matt was floored when he heard the news. He always loved Kevin despite their differences and their difficult marriage.”

Matt split up with Kevin late last year over Kevin’s drug taking.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A statement read: “Police were called to an address in Bruntsfield Gardens around 8am (on Monday) morning where a 32-year-old man was found dead.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent the Procurator Fiscal.”
