Griff Rhys Jones has revealed he’s very strict with the panelists on his new comedy show.

The comedian and presenter hosts A Short History Of Everything Else, which begins on Channel 4 next month.

The programme, which has Marcus Brigstoke and Charlie Baker as regular team captains, also welcomes different guests each week such as Will Self, Kirsty Wark and Grace Dent.

Griff said of his hosting style: “I’m quite a school master, no mucking around. It is quite difficult I’ve discovered, getting them to shut up.

“Off Marcus would go, Will Self is unbelievable – I’m no slouch myself in terms of yakking – but he is non-stoppable, and stopping people was what I found complicated.”

The series goes through the television archives to find funny news clips from recent history, and Griff said even he found it a struggle to remember what happened.

“You watch these clips and think ‘I’d forgotten all about that!’ It’s a nostalgic feast and I suppose that’s why they chose an ancient fixture – I’m old enough to have forgotten everything,” he said.
