The BBC has announced today that former EastEnders star Jack Ryder will be joining Holby City next year.
Jack Ryder, who is better known to soap fans as Albert Square’s Jamie Mitchell, will be joining Holby City as a new surgeon called Evan.
Olivier Award nominee, Amy Lennox, will also be joining the show alongside Jack. Amy will be playing the role of Chloe Goddard, a doctor from neighbouring hospital, Capel Cross.
Jack will be playing Amy’s on screen boyfriend, Evan, who arrives at Holby to try and convince her to take their relationship seriously.
The actor appeared in EastEnders between 1998 and 2002 and became a household name as part of the Mitchell dynasty on the soap. But playing the role of Evan is going to be very different for Jack.
He revealed: “I am delighted to be joining Holby City and look forward to working with such a talented group of people. I can’t wait to give a voice to this exciting new character and serve a show that people love.”
Amy is equally as excited to be joining the established show: “I’m thrilled to be joining Holby as Chloe Godard and working with such an amazing cast and crew over at BBC Elstree.
“Chloe has some really great storylines coming up that I can’t wait to share with you all.”
Jack has been in talks with the BBC to get the right role for him on Holby – and it seems his moment has arrived.
Simon Harper, Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty, revealed: “We’ve been talking to Jack for a while to find the right part for him on Holby and his powerful, nuanced audition for Evan blew us away.
“He’s both a household name and a superb actor, and fans who remember him as Jamie in EastEnders are in for a big treat and quite a surprise seeing him in this very different role. Evan is a complex, alpha surgeon who makes some major waves in Holby. ”
Holby City airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1.
