Is there a chance that Holby City consultant Ange and director of nursing Fletch could become more than just good friends?
Holby City consultant Ange Godard has certainly been through the mill a bit in recent months.
Firstly, there was all the emotional turmoil of the Holly Cartwright case. Then, a few weeks back, Ange received the shock news that her Holby colleague Dominic Copeland (David Ames) is her REAL son. During all that, Ange found an unlikely ally in director of nursing Fletch, who comes to her aid again this week.
As Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) greets Ange with breakfast at work, she reveals she has a tonne of paperwork to do for Holby boss Henrik Hanssen (who’s popping up in Casualty). Having to deal with all manner of staff rotas and contracts in his role as director of nursing, Fletch is the king of paperwork! So when he suggests they team up to get the job done, Ange is keen.
“Fletch and Ange get on mainly because he makes her laugh and, as we’ve seen so far, Ange hasn’t had much to laugh about,” says Dawn Steele, who plays her. “Ange is quite serious and Fletch provides some light relief for her.”
Once they get through the mountain of stats and numbers, Fletch thinks they’ve earned a cuppa. But Ange is more in the mood for a G&T, so the pair head off to Albie’s bar for a drink.
As Ange confides in Fletch about how she fears that Dom and her daughter Chloe won’t forgive her for recent revelations, Fletch assures her they will. Feeling comforted, Ange brushes Fletch’s arm and calls him a ‘gentleman’.
Could we be seeing a new romance blossoming right before our eyes?
“Ange enjoys being in Fletch’s company; he brings out a different side to her,” says Dawn. “It’s lovely to see a strong female character, who’s intelligent and at the top of her game. But it’s nice to show that Ange can also have fun!”
Holby City continues on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1.
