Holly Willoughby has made her debut as co-presenter of the daytime show This Morning, as the show returned from its summer break.

Wearing a tight-fitting cream dress, the 28-year-old – who also co-presents Dancing On Ice with Schofield – said that she felt as if it wasn’t “really happening”.

“It was like Christmas Eve for me last night,” she explained, “that kind of brilliant excitement where you just can’t sleep. But I did get some sleep because I had strange dreams.”

Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, who was a guest on the show, said that Willoughby was doing a “marvellous job”.

And there was also a special message for her from the show’s former presenters Richard and Judy.

Phillip read out a message from them that said, “What a fantastic start! Have great fun and enjoy – we did! Lots of love, Richard and Judy.”

Hundreds of viewers also called in and emailed to wish Willoughby good luck on the show.

Afterwards, she said, “It feels like I’ve queued up for two months for a rollercoaster ride – and now I’ve had a go, I can’t wait to get back on!”

Willoughby has replaced previous presenter Fern Britton, who quit in July after 10 years.
