Honey G tells This Morning: ‘I want to put my day job behind me… and become a global artist’

X Factor hopeful Honey G has hit back at her haters and told This Morning that she has her heart set on a global recording career backed by Syco

The X Factor contestant Honey G has said she wants to quit her day job to become a full-time multi-platinum-selling rapper.

The recruitment manager, 35, said she had always wanted to be a rapper and, after making it through yet another round of the ITV competition last week, is ready to turn the dream into a reality.

Speaking on This Morning on Friday, she said: “The whole of my life I’ve wanted to be a rapper, and it wasn’t until now that I’ve got the opportunity to be on a platform.

“I’m obviously looking to now pursue a full-time career as a rap music artist. Hopefully get a record deal, hopefully with Syco which is what I really want, and be a multi-platinum recording artist and sell records globally and do global tours.

“So I’d like to put my day job and stuff like that behind me now.”

After receiving public support from American rapper 50 Cent, the road to her dreams may already have started.

It has been a whirlwind ride for Honey G, real name Anna Gilford, who only had two days’ notice before she was brought back into the competition as a wildcard contestant.

She said: “I had literally no idea, even from the first competitions, that I would get to this point.

“I’ve seen what I am capable of and I feel like I have been born as a rap star, and I want to go all the way to the final.”

But the controversial singer’s journey through the competition has been met with criticism and disapproval from viewers and some celebrity figures – including Boy George.

She said in response: “Talk to the hand.

“All the haters out there giving stories to the press need to check themselves because they mean nothing to me. They will never get anywhere spreading hate. They might as well give up their day job.”

Commenting particularly on rumours that her own family members had labelled her an ’embarrassment’, she added: “It’s all a pack of lies.

“My mum and family are all very proud of me. They admire my bravery and tenacity.”

The X Factor returns on ITV at 8pm on Saturday, where contestants will perform Halloween-themed numbers in a Fright Night special episode, with Honey G bringing a rendition of Men in Black by Will Smith to the stage.
