Radio One DJ Greg James is set to make his acting debut in a new one-off BBC comedy he’s writtten called Dead Air.

“I’ve always wanted to write a comedy for the BBC,” says Greg, who recently presented BBC3 series I Survived A Zombie Apocalypse. “The fact that this silly idea I jotted down two years ago is now a reality is ridiculously exciting.”

Dead Air launches on BBC iPlayer at 11pm on Monday July 13 and sees Greg star as the respected commercial late-night radio DJ, Jake Cross, who’s unexpectedly given an opportunity to inherit the coveted breakfast slot when the previous presenter dies.

Should he sell out now he has a shot at the big time, or should he try to maintain his integrity with a small but loyal fan-base?

Jake’s entourage includes an idiot best friend, a career-threatening agent, a highly-strung producer and an irritatingly successful rival radio DJ. The one-off comedy also stars Tom Davis (Murder In Successville), Olivia Poulet (The Thick Of It), Richard David-Caine (Skins) and Monserrat Lombard (Ashes to Ashes).

“It’s been the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever done and I can’t wait for people to see Dead Air,” says Greg, 29. “My 14-year-old self wouldn’t believe it!”
