I’m A Celebrity ‘signs up’ this Coronation Street favourite for 2019 series

Can Andrew Whyment become the first Corrie actor to win in the jungle?

Coronation Street favourite Andrew Whyment, aka Kirk Sutherland in the ITV soap, is reportedly the latest star to have signed up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

The Sun reports that the 38-year-old actor, who’s also known for his part in The Royle Family, has agreed to head into the Australian jungle when the reality hit returns later this year.

Paul suggests Kirk should sing a couple of his songs

Andrew Whyment has been playing Kirk in Coronation Street since 1990 – now he could be heading to the jungle…

Other stars rumoured to be heading off down under include another Coronation Street star, Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway, ex Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle and Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe.

A source told The Sun: “Producers are really pleased with the line-up so far, with just a couple of faces to unveil.

“There’s a chance they’ll add a couple more but in previous years they’ve stuck at ten with one or two to follow.

“They were chuffed to get Andrew as viewers have watched him on Coronation Street for the best part of two decades, yet know nothing about him away from Kirk.”

On last year’s I’m A Celebrity, Coronation Street actress Sair Khan (Alya Nazir) took part, but she could only manage ninth place as football boss Harry Redknapp triumphed.

Indeed despite many Corrie actors taking part on the show, including Jennie McAlpine (Fiz) in the 2017 series, no star from the soap has actually gone on to win in the jungle.

Could Andrew – who’s also enjoyed roles in Cracker, Once Upon a Time in the North and Heartbeat – break the Corrie jungle duck?

The 2019 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will be screened on ITV later this year. ITV is yet to confirm the official line-up.
