Inbetweeners 2 newcomer Emily Berrington reveals the pressure ‘to not be rubbish’

Emily Berrington

has said she was terrified of ruining

The Inbetweeners 2

as the newcomer.

The Outnumbered actress has joined the lads for the latest spin-off instalment of the hit sitcom as a love interest for main character Will, played by Simon Bird.

This time, the action moves to Australia with the lads on a gap year and Emily said: “Doing something you’ve already watched is just ridiculous, because you know it’s probably going to be funny, you know that the script’s probably going to be good, everyone else is probably going to know exactly what they’re doing and so it’s all down to you just to not be rubbish, basically.

“It’s reassuring because you know the script’s going to be great, but there is a pressure because if it’s something you love already then you don’t want to be the thing that’s not good in it.”

She said Simon and his co-stars Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison made sure the set was a welcoming place for her to join them.

“It was quite a laddy atmosphere because the boys have all been together for a long time and with Iain (Morris) and Damon (Beesley), who write it and directed the film.

“But they were so inclusive, so they would make a joke and they would say, ‘Oh, this is a reference to an in-joke we had six years ago where I touched Joe’s willy with a pencil.’ They never let me just laugh along without knowing what was going on, I was always kept up to speed.”

The Inbetweeners 2 is out in cinemas now.
