‘Inbetweeners movie sequel will be the end!’ say show’s stars

Inbetweeners stars James Buckley, Simon Bird, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas have said their new film is definitely the end for the hit comedy.

The actors rose to fame as teenage pals Jay, Will, Neil and Simon in the award-winning E4 comedy created by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, and after the success of their box office smash hit movie, agreed to star in a sequel.

The first film saw the teenagers go to Malia in Crete for their last holiday before university. The Inbetweeners 2 follows them to Sydney, where Jay is living with his uncle, for a gap-year adventure. Creators and writers Damon and Iain also make their directorial debut with the movie.

But James, 26, revealed: “The boys don’t want to write any more. It’s not even just running out of ideas – you could come up with another idea but I can’t think of anything that would be as epic and as big as going to Australia. Especially for a British film.”

“And we won’t ever do anything that we feel is taking a step backwards. It’s quite sad, but it seems to be the end.”

Joe, 30, explained their characters could not be seen to get any older, as they would no longer be The Inbetweeners.

He said: “I think this is the end. I can’t see us doing any more after this. You just run out of youth basically!”

“When we were doing this film there was some talk of whether it would be a kind of reunion thing, 10 years on or something. That doesn’t really work, because it has to be that you are stuck in this situation where they can’t grow up.

“They’ve all achieved as little as each other and if you flash forward to somewhere where they have got stuff done and have developed or changed in some way, it ceases to be the Inbetweeners. That’s what sticks them together, is their mutual inadequacy.”

The Inbetweeners 2 arrives in UK cinemas on Wednesday 6th August.
