Dannii Minogue is in talks to return to the judging panel of The X Factor as a replacement for Kelly Rowland, according to reports.

The Mirror reports that the 40-year-old has begun early negotiations with ITV about making a comeback – although show insiders later said that no deal had yet been reached.

She quit the show last year after it clashed with her filming commitments as a judge on Australia’s Got Talent.

ITV executives are reportedly hoping that Dannii returning to the show could help to boost ratings, with one insider telling the paper, “She is extremely popular among X Factor fans and would still be a big draw.”

Dannii said earlier this month it was “up to Simon Cowell” whether or not she returned to the show.

“I haven’t ruled out coming back to the UK for anything and I think all of the show’s fans know that I love it,” she said. “I would love to do it again but it’s all in the hands of Mr Cowell.”

2011 judge Kelly Rowland is reportedly quitting the show due to her wage demands, although Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Gary Barlow – who is said to have signed a £2m to return to the show – will all be back for the next series.

Dannii spent four years as a judge on the show and mentored winners Leon Jackson and Matt Cardle.
