Comedienne Dawn French is tipped to take up a role on the judging panel for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest show Superstar, according to The Sun.

The paper reports that The Vicar Of Dibley star could become head judge on the show set to air this summer, in which the composer will find a new leading actor for his revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.

“Andrew is looking for the cream of British acting and showbiz stars from Superstar,” a source told the paper, “and Dawn has caught his eye.

“She is outspoken, someone who connects with ordinary people and has years and years of experience. It’s early days but she is interested and they have been very taken with her in the initial conversations.”

Others who are already involved in the show include Jason Donovan and Mel C who have been mentoring some of the hopefuls, following auditions which were held across the UK – while Amanda Holden has been tipped as presenter.

Superstar will air in the summer, with The Sun reporting that it will be screened every night for two weeks rather than in a more traditional series format.

“The plan is to make it more like I’m A Celebrity, building up a head of steam at the end of the two weeks,” an insider revealed.
