What does the future hold for Sinead if actress Katie McGlynn really is leaving Coronation Street?
Sinead Tinker – played by Katie McGlynn – is at the centre of a hugely pivotal Coronation Street story line. So what could happen if the star really has quit the soap?
Speculation has been rife as to whether Katie, 25, is stepping down from the cobbles after rumours emerged earlier this year and appeared to be confirmed by Katie’s co-star Lisa George – who plays Beth Tinker – who said she was “devastated” to see her go.
Given that Sinead is battling cervical cancer, soap fans assumed the worst – that it’s a battle Sinead won’t win – despite hearing earlier this week that the treatment was working and the tumour had started to shrink.
But, Katie cleared up rumours, confirming she’ll be on the soap until “well into the year” – and even she doesn’t know what the future holds for Sinead.
She tweeted: “Unlucky timing with my sarcastic humour on CelebJuice when these silly rumours are going around. I have not ‘quit’ Corrie, I am contracted well into this year & am fully committed to our long running storyline, we do not know the outcome as of yet, which is how we like it!”
Although a leak appeared to confirm the worst for Katie’s character Sinead – who made the tough decision to delay treatment until she and husband Daniel Osbourne (played by Rob Mallard) had their son Bertie – and that her exit would “leave viewers in tears,” a spokesperson for the soap insisted nothing has been set in stone.
“Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen. This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”
Katie’s rumoured exit comes after a mass exodus of stars quit the cobbles amid reports of “gruelling hours” after Corrie upped to six episodes a week.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
