She might have proclaimed her loyalty to the BBC – but speculation is rife that Susanna Reid could be lured to ITV with a seven-figure deal.
According to the Mirror the TV host – who reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing 2013 – has been offered £1m, four times her current salary – to leave BBC Breakfast and defect to the other side.
And the paper claims that ITV boss Helen Warner is eyeing her as a potential presenter of their new breakfast, show, which looks likely to replace the trouble Daybreak.
A BBC insider admitted they had a fight on their hands to keep Susanna on board.
“We know how hard ITV have been coming after her, so it must be a tough decision,” the source admitted.
“We thought she was very happy here but they are pulling out all the stops. We very much hope that she stays with us.”
Susanna has previously professed fierce loyalty to the Beeb, saying in December: “If you cut me open I would bleed BBC. I said when BBC Breakfast moved to Salford that the BBC runs through me like a stick of rock – nothing has changed.”
The presenter is currently reunited with Strictly partner Kevin Clifton on the show’s live tour.
