New documentary will see Coronation Street favourites share their classic festive moments from the cobbles
Coronation Street will dig through its archives for an ITV special this Christmas, it’s been announced.
Corrie at Christmas will delve into six decades of archive footage to celebrate some of the most memorable moments in the show’s history.
It’s also been revealed that the one-hour special will feature present and past cast members sharing their thoughts on Corrie Christmasses past.
One moment sure to make the show is when Hilda Ogden (played by Jean Alexander) made her last appearance on Christmas Day 1987. Nearly 18 million viewers tuned in as Hilda bowed out, famously singing Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye.
In 1998 Jack and Vera memorably refused to leave the Rovers after learning that Alec Gilroy wanted to kick them out.
And who can forget Curly Watts giving Raquel the ultimate present – a star! Yep, on Christmas Day 1994, Curly gave Raquel a star named Mrs Raquel Watts. Unfortunately, things were far from heavenly though for the pair and their marriage soon failed.
Speaking about the special, executive producer Sue Walton said: “Corrie at Christmas promises to bring joy through iconic archive and cast memories from Christmasses past in Weatherfield. Peace and goodwill can be short-lived on the cobbles during the festive season which always bring drama as well as plenty of fun and heart-warming moments – all captured in this documentary which will pack a Christmas punch.”
Speculation is already mounting as to what will be the big Christmas plot this year, with some thinking that it could see tragic Sinead, who’ll next week be told she only has months to live, bowing out to the anguish of Daniel and baby Bertie. However, nothing has yet been confirmed!
Coronation Street will turn 60 next year and we already know there’s another documentary in the pipeline, Queens Of The Street.
Suranne Jones and Sally Lindsay are among the stars believed to taking part in Queens Of The Street.
Coronation Street continues on ITV.
