In a late change to its evening schedule, ITV will now show Piers Morgan’s Life Stories: Burt Reynolds, at 10.45pm. Tonight At the London Palladium will no longer be on. Piers yesterday tweeted: “RIP Burt Reynolds. What a man, what an actor, what a life. A true Hollywood legend.”

The schedule now reads:

11.45pm The Jonathan Ross Show
Then back on schedule.

Burt, who famously turned down the role of James Bond saying an American couldn’t play the character, became a huge movie star during the 1970s, starring in films including The Longest Yard, Smokey and The Bandit and Semi-Tough.

ITV4 will now be showing his 1977 movie Smokey and The Bandit on Saturday at 5.05pm.

Burt received a Best Supporting Oscar nomination for his part in the 1997 film Boogie Nights.

As well as turning down Bond – a decision he later said he regretted – he’s also reported to have turned downed the chance to play Han Solo in Star Wars.

He died in hospital in Jupiter, Florida, on Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack.
