Reality TV star Jade Goody has undergone an eight-hour hysterectomy operation at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
The former Big Brother housemate is expected to remain in intensive care following the op, and will undergo a gruelling nine-week course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the coming months.
Tests revealed earlier this week that her cervical cancer had not spread – although she was advised to undergo the surgery as well as other treatment at the hospital, which specialises in treating cancer patients.
“The operation went well,” her spokesman Max Clifford told the Sun.
Jade – who has two sons, Freddie and Bobby – was appearing on Bigg Boss, the Indian version of Big Brother, when she received news of her illness.
She will be seen on her new reality TV show Living With Jade Goody talking about the operation this week.
“It’s the equivalent of a heart transplant,” she said, “so it’s a very very serious operation.”
