Jaz Ellington is favourite to win BBC1’s The Voice after the final 20 acts were chosen this weekend to progress to the live shows.
Soul singer Jaz – whose blind audition had coaches will.i.am and Jessie J in tears – leads the pack with bookmaker William Hill putting him at 5-1 to take victory. X Factor reject Joelle Moses is the next most-fancied.
But there has been disappointment for some well-known faces including former Five Star singer Deniece Pearson who was axed during this weekend’s “battle stage”.
Each of the coaches – Jessie J, Danny O’Donoghue, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am – had to choose half of their team to go forward, and the rest were axed from the show.
During the two 90-minute shows there were tears and heartache as contestants saw their dreams dashed, and the coaches were in turmoil with their choices.
Those who have made it through include Amy Winehouse’s pal Tyler James and aristocratic Lady Catherine Brudenell-Bruce, known to viewers as Bo Bruce.
Next Saturday viewers begin to have their say as the public vote begins, whittling away one member from each of the coaches’ teams of five.
