Jo Joyner says she jumped at the chance to star in a TV show featuring a woman – instead of a man – having an affair.

The former EastEnders actress stars as Meg in new Sky Living sitcom Trying Again. after quitting her role as Walford’s Tanya Branning.

She said: “I loved the idea that the girl had the affair.

“Maybe it’s because I’m in a role reversal situation myself with my husband [actor Neil Madden with whom she has two kids] staying at home, but also, a lot of my female friends are wearing the trousers in the house, or at least earning the money.

“What I’m witnessing as I’m approaching 40 is that a lot of them are then having mid-life crises and doing the typical male things as well.

“It was refreshing to me to read that [in the script] – because it does happen, and not because you’re horrible and nasty or a serial philanderer.”

The 36-year-old stars alongside Chris Addison, 42, as Matt, playing a ‘just-about-functioning’ couple giving love a second chance following Meg’s indiscretion with her boss.

“I’ve had more dinners with Chris than my own husband,” Jo joked about filming the show. “We ate our way around Kendal.”

Trying Again is the creation of Addison and Bafta-winning writer Simon Blackwell, who’ve also worked together on shows like The Thick Of It and Veep.

Trying Again premieres on Sky Living on Thursday, April 24.
