John Lewis have released their annual tearjerker, but this time we're more likely to cry tears of joy at adorable Buster.
The long wait for the most anticipated Christmas advert of the year is finally over – as John Lewis have released their annual tearjerker.
But rather than making us weep like we did after last year’s Man On The Moon campaign, the retailer has decided to cheer us up with a comical boxer dog.
This year’s film follows Buster the dog as he fondly watches his owner Bridget jumping up and down on her bed.
Bridget’s father painstakingly assembles a giant trampoline ready to surprise his daughter on Christmas Day morning, but during the night the toy is hijacked by two foxes, a badger, a squirrel and a hedgehog.
Buster watches in awe from the living room as the woodland animals bounce on the trampoline together.
The following morning Bridget dashes out into the snow to make the most of her new present, but Buster beats her to it, jumping on the trampoline while his owners look on in horror.
The advert is set to a magical cover of Randy Crawford’s 1980 jazz hit One Day I’ll Fly Away by London electronic group Vaults , who recorded it at Abbey Road studios with a 70-strong choir and 66-piece orchestra – with vocals from lead signer Blythe Pepino.
The Wildlife Trust are this year’s charity partners for the campaign and will receive a 10 per cent of every £15 soft Buster or £12 soft Halle the hedgehog, Betsy the badger, Otto the fox or Sid the squirrel sold.
Buster fans will also be able to buy pyjamas, Buster’s Christmas – a children’s story book for £9.99 and download Buster images on Snapchat to transform faces into a dog face.
Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis, said: “2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile. It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels like to give the perfect gift at Christmas.”
