Contains spoilers! Josephine Jobert on why the time was right to leave the BBC1 crime drama
Death in Paradise star Josephine Jobert has revealed why she took the “tough decision” to quit the BBC1 hit after five years playing DS Florence Cassell.
At the end of episode five, Florence followed her fiance Patrice to an abandoned warehouse, where she was shot, leaving viewers wondering if she’d survive.
While in episode six Florence lived to fight another day, she was so devastated over the murder of Patrice, she decided she couldn’t stay in Saint Marie any longer and was seen leaving the island.
In a video message posted on the show’s Twitter account, Josephine Jobert explained why she’d decided to go and how she’d miss her co-stars – Ardal O’Hanlon (who plays Jack), Tobi Bakare (JP) and Shyko Amos (Ruby).
“So I quit the show for professional and personal reasons, nothing dramatic, I swear everything is fine.
“I’ve been working on Death in Paradise for five years and it’s been an amazing experience; working with brilliant actors, working with the English and French crew.
“I loved every minute of it and I’m going to miss the show, I’m going to miss Toby and Ardal and Shyko and everyone. So it’s been a tough decision, but you know, that’s life.”
Fans had already had to deal with one shock before the current series had even started when news broke that Danny John Jules had left the show as workshy Officer Dwayne Myers.
The 33-year-old actress hopes that despite all the line-up changes, viewers will continue to watch the show.
“Don’t stop watching. I promises there are so many good episodes coming.”
She added that she would continue to watch the series, which continues this Thursday with the Commissioner breaking the bad news to Jack that DS Madeline Dumas from International Affairs is launching an investigation into his conduct.
Is Jack about to get struck off?
Watch Death in Paradise this Thursday on BBC1 at 9pm.
