Lee Mead has spoken about the joys of being a hands-on dad to daughter Betsy and how she’s similar to his wife Denise Van Outen.

Since welcoming his first child with Denise last May, the singer has been juggling fatherhood with his West End role in Wicked, a solo concert tour and work on his second album.

“I got up at 6am this morning, changed Betsy’s nappy, gave her milk and porridge and got her ready for the day – she’s such a wriggler and giggler it takes about 20 minutes to get her dressed! But I wouldn’t change any of it for the world, I love being a hands-on daddy,” he said.

“Just seeing her makes you think ‘wow, I’m so lucky’.”

Lee, who shot to fame after winning BBC show Any Dream Will Do in 2007, is besotted with Betsy.

“She’s gorgeous! I think she’s definitely got my eyes and her mum’s mouth,” he gushed.

“Her hair’s just started growing and although I thought it might be curly like mine, our hairdresser doesn’t think so: Still you never know.”

“Parenthood changes your life and we’re loving it. As any parent will tell you it’s like a second full-time job but we try to balance it as a couple, share everything and work as a team,” he added.

Lee Mead is touring with his solo show, An Evening With Lee Mead. See www.easytheatres.com for more details.
