Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph became the fourth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing
It takes two to tango, but Lesley Joseph didn’t quite keep up with her share of the footwork and was voted out of Strictly Come Dancing in Week Five of the contest.
Birds of a Feather star Lesley and partner Anton Du Beke found themselves in the dance-off with model Daisy Lowe and Aljaz Skorjanec, facing judges Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli.
On Saturday night, Lesley, 71 – the contest’s oldest competitor – knew she had made mistakes with her tango and was clearly disappointed…
“It’s so frustrating!” she wailed to Anton.
“There were stumbles,” Craig told Lesley. “I don’t think this is the dance for you.”
And, as it turned out, it was Lesley’s last dance of the contest.
The writing was on the wall for Lesley when her rival in the dance-off was Daisy, as all of the judges had loved Daisy and Aljaz’s Charleston on Saturday night, with their only criticism being that Daisy runs out of energy before she gets to the end of her dances.
Both couples performed their routines again; Lesley and Anton danced their tango to “Whatever Lola Wants” by Gotan Project and Daisy and Aljaž danced their Charleston to “Happy Feet” by Manhattan Rhythm Kings in a bid remain in the competition.
Then the judges delivered their verdicts:
“I love both couples for completely different reasons. But for me tonight, for precision, for an improved performance in this particular Dance Off, and finishing on time, the couple I would like to save is Daisy and Aljaž,” said Craig.
“I wouldn’t want these two couples here at all, and to choose between them is very difficult,” said Darcey. “But the couple I would like to save on their cleanness and the quality of their dance that stood out to me is Daisy and Aljaž.”
“Well I love both of these girls for many different reasons,” said Bruno. “But I have to really choose the stronger dance on every aspect – technique and performance. And for that reason I am choosing to save Daisy and Aljaž.”
Head Judge Len Goodman stated that he agreed with his colleagues, making the decision unanimous.
Many viewers will have been surprised that Ed Balls wasn’t making his exit after his bumpy American Smooth which saw him nearly drop his partner, Katya Jones, during a lift, which you can watch below.
The remaining 10 couples will take to the dance floor when Strictly Come Dancing returns with a Halloween special on BBC1, Saturday, October 29, 6.45pm.
