Line of Duty series 5 promises to be ‘some ride,’ says star Martin Compston

Might Roz (Thandie Newton) return?

Line of Duty star Martin Compston has promised fans of the police anti-corruption hit that series five will be just as thrilling as the previous instalments.

Martin, who plays AC-12’s dogged detective Steve Arnott in the BBC1 drama, teased fans with a glimpse from the first page of the script for the new series.

And Martin, who appeared in the last series of Victoria, suggested there will be plenty more twists to come from writer Jed Mercurio.

“Even better on the second read,” he wrote. And then, making reference to Steve’s love of wearing wasitcoats, he added: “Mr Mercurio has done it again. Gonna be some ride can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again.”

We know Jed is penning at least two more series of Line of Duty and he admitted to us he had contemplated killing off Steve… “but it didn’t feel like the right time, it felt like the character had more to give. But although we all love working together, the cast understand that the appeal of the series is that we can’t rely on them getting out of jeopardy intact. So nobody is ever off limits.”

AC-12 are back – and they’ve got a brand new nemesis

Might Roz make a comeback in series five?

Jed also said that Thandie Newton could one day return to Line of Duty as Roz. “There are always ways in which we’d brings someone back for the right story…”

We can wait to see what’s in store for Arnott, Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and Fleming (Vicky McClure) when they return next year! And, of course, hear that iconic theme tune again…
