Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure reveals the surprise SOAP she turned down!

Vicky was once offered a part in Crossroads

Line of Duty star Vicky McClure has revealed that she once turned down the chance to be in classic soap Crossroads!

The ITV soap, famous for its wobbly sets, originally ran from 1964 to 1988 and at its peak brought in 18 million viewers.

After being axed in 1988, Crossroads was brought back in 2001 before being dropped again two years later.

And Vicky recalls that during the brief Crossroads revival she was offered a role, but decided it wasn’t for her!

“Back in the day when I was at Workshop [The Television Workshop in Nottingham] I got offered a part in the Crossroads remake. At the time I was like, ‘I’ll do anything, but I’m not doing that!’,” she says.

Yep, somehow we can’t quite imagine Vicky – who got her big break, aged 15, in Shane Meadows’ 1999 comedy film A Room for Romeo Brass – in Crossroads.

The popular star, who’s about to appear in the C4 drama I Am Nicola, went on to talk about how she tries to hold out for the right role.

“At a time when I desperately needed work I’d be up for an audition for something like Footballers Wives, which people loved and I watched, but I thought, ‘It’s not me.’

“If you can hold out, great. I’ve also done jobs that haven’t turned out as I expected them to. You can never tell. You don’t know if Line of Duty is going to be a success. I wouldn’t say I’m picky to the point I wouldn’t work – I like to be in work!”

Vicky McClure, whose other credits include The Replacement and Broadchurch, stars in I Am Nicola, which begins on Tuesday 23rd July on C4 at 10pm.
