Little Mix face chart battle with X Factor’s Lucy

Last year’s The X Factor winners Little Mix are facing a battle for the top spot in the iTunes chart against one of this year’s contenders, Sheffield singer Lucy Spraggan.

The girl band are currently number one in the iTunes chart with their latest single Wings – but Lucy’s ‘beer fear’ anthem Last Night, which she performed on Saturday night’s show, has also proven a hit with music fans, and as of Monday was the second biggest-seller.

The track – in which the 21-year-old sang about the consequences of a drunken night out – entered the chart just hours after the audition was shown.

And her appearance has also given a boost to her album Top Room At The Zoo, which she released on an independent label last year.

Lucy won a place in boot camp after the four judges at the Manchester auditions voted unanimously to send her through to the next round.

Even the notoriously hard to please Mel B told her, “You don’t know how great you are, and that’s what’s so endearing,” while Tulisa added, “That song is going straight on to my iPod.”

Meanwhile Lucy – who came out as gay at the age of 14 – has admitted that she is hoping The X Factor will hope her find a girlfriend.

“X Factor must do wonders for your love life,” she said. “Girls do love girls with guitars.”

She added that her mum had been delighted when she told her about her sexuality as she “thought it was cool” but confessed, “My granddad only found out I was gay on Google.”
