Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones are to take over as the new presenters of ITV1’s Daybreak following the news that the show is undergoing a revamp.

The pair will take over from original presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, who left in December after the show scored disappointing viewing figures – reportedly half those of its main rival BBC Breakfast.

Welsh-born Jones – who first sprang to fame as a child singer with the hit Walking In The Air – said he was thrilled to be joining Lorraine on the show.

“I am thoroughly looking forward to sharing the sofa every morning with such a consummate professional as Lorraine Kelly,” the 41-year-old said.

“We’ve known each other for a very long time and have always had a lot of fun together. We hope that the viewers enjoy being part of our breakfast family.”

Lorraine added, “I’m really looking forward to this challenge and working with Aled who is a warm, funny and thoroughly decent bloke and is already a good friend.”

And she told The Sun, “I don’t mind getting up a wee bit earlier. I can’t wait to get started. I love Aled and he makes me laugh. We get on so well.”

The pair will join the show – currently being fronted by interim presenters Dan Lobb and Kate Garraway – later this year.
