Lovelace | DVD review – Amanda Seyfried acts out of her skin in revealing biopic of porn’s first superstar

Lovelace_3D_retail_DVDAmanda Seyfried acts out of her skin as the woman who became the porn industry’s first superstar after appearing in notorious 1970s skinflick Deep Throat in this revealing biopic from former documentary filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman.

The pair tell Linda’s story twice in Lovelace. First comes an upbeat tale of sexual liberation as shy Florida girl Linda Boreman sheds her inhibitions and her clothes and becomes an icon as Linda Lovelace, but what follows is considerably darker as she exposes the exploitation and abuse she experienced behind the camera at the hands of sleazy husband Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard).

Seyfried and Sarsgaard are superb, and there’s outstanding support from Hank Azaria as Deep Throat director Gerry Damiano and from an unrecognisable Sharon Stone as Linda’s coldly repressive Catholic mother.

Released on Blu-ray, Blu-ray Double Play & DVD by Lionsgate UK on Monday 23rd December.
