Lucy Fallon says quitting Bethany role was ‘nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street’

Lucy says she decided to leave the soap last August

Coronation Street favourite Lucy Fallon has described her “extremely difficult” decision to leave the soap after four years as Bethany Platt.

The 23-year-old star, who has made a huge impact on the cobbles as troubled Bethany, will depart the show next year, The Sun has reported.

Lucy said: “After the most incredible four years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020. It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me.

“I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday. I’m so thankful to Iain [Macleod, the show’s producer] and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly.”

Has Bethany Platt realised Gary has been lying?

Lucy has become a fan favourite as Bethany Platt

Lucy is the latest star revealed to be leaving the soap, with Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, and Tristan Gemmill, aka Robert Preston, among those who’ll be departing.

However, Lucy, who’s won a string of awards for her performance as Bethany including an NTA trophy, made it very clear that her decision was nothing to do with anyone else and that she’d decided to go last year.

“Just to clarify, my decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street. I didn’t make it lightly and I am going to miss every single person there. Excited for my final year at the best place! Woo.”

And now Lucy is heading off for a well earned break, saying on Instagram: “Off on holiday on Saturday with some of my fave kids. SUN N DAIQUIRIS is what I need right now.”

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
