Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss: ‘My marriage was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible

Elisabeth Moss has called her marriage to Fred Armisen ‘traumatic’, saying she is glad to have got the experience out of the way.

The Mad Men star told New York Magazine that being married to Saturday Night Live performer Fred had been a terrible time, even though they were only together for eight months.

She said: “Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn’t think that I was that young. It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible.

“At the same time, it turned out for the best. I’m glad that I’m not there. I’m glad that it didn’t happen when I was 50. I’m glad I didn’t have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that’s probably not going to happen again.”

Elisabeth, 31, had previously told the New York Post’s Page Six: “One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, ‘He’s so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.’ To me, that sums it up.”

Fred who she split with in 2010, gave an interview to Howard Stern last year in which he admitted to being a ‘terrible husband’.

The Top Of The Lake actress told New York magazine it had been traumatic to see her break-up in the tabloids: “I always knew that the stuff that you read is not true, but when I was in the situation and you really, actually read things that you apparently said or did that are 100 per cent made up… It’s just the strange, simple thing of, that’s your heart they’re talking about, and it just… it sucks.”

But she admitted she still loved to read celebrity gossip: “I’m not perfect in that way. I enjoy a little gossip. I like looking at photos of celebrities going to Starbucks.”
