Mary Berry is staying ‘loyal’ to BBC as she declines move to Channel 4 with Bake Off

Mary Berry says she won't be moving to Channel 4 with the Great British Bake Off in 2017, leaving just Paul Hollywood among the core presenting team in the mix

Hugely popular judge Mary Berry says she will not move to Channel 4 with The Great British Bake Off in 2017.

The BBC reports that Mary, 81, says she is staying with the BBC out of ‘loyalty’.

Last week, Bake Off hosts Mel and Sue declined to move to Channel 4 with Bake Off for similar reasons.

Mary said in a statement: “My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.

“What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of seven years of magic in a tent.

“I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.”

She added: “The Bake Off family – Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter.”

“I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it.

“Farewell to soggy bottoms.”

Mary’s decision means the only remaining core member of the presenting team is Paul Hollywood, who has neither confirmed nor denied he will continued with Bake Off on Channel 4.
