Little Britain creator Matt Lucas has high hopes for his new Gold comedy drama Marley’s Ghosts, a show he says is so good he’s been watching the first episode every day.
Marley’s Ghosts is a three-part series about a woman who’s having an affair, but traumatic events turn her life upside down. The show’s title gives viewers a clue about the twist.
Matt, whose production company John Stanley Productions created it for UKTV channel Gold, told What’s on TV: “I love Marley’s Ghosts. I’m not supposed to be… I know I’m biased, cos it’s my company that made it, but I absolutely… I’m besotted with the show and I’ve watched the first episode, I keep watching it every day. I’m absolutely in love with the show.
“Marley’s Ghosts is about a lady played by Sarah Alexander, who is having an affair with Nick Burns but also has a husband played by John Hannah, but then something really dramatic happens… I’m not sure I want to give it away, I don’t want to spoil it.”
Matt continued: “It’s one of those great shows with a lot of twists and turns and surprises and Jo Joyner’s in it as the vicar and she’s absolutely hilarious.”
His company has also produced a new sitcom, Bull, set in an antiques shop and starring Maureen Lipman and Robert Lindsay.
Bull screens on Gold later in the year and Matt said: “There’s a lot of physical comedy in there, you know. It’s a big, old-fashioned comedy. When you see Robert Lindsay’s suits you go, ‘Ah! I know where we are.'”
Watch Matt talk about dividing his life between the US and Britain, his ex flatmate Rebel Wilson, his upcoming roles and being shouted at in the street, above.
Marley’s Ghosts premieres on Gold on Wednesday, September 30.
