Matthew Kelly has revealed he would love to walk into Coronation Street – as a villain.

The entertainer is no stranger to evil roles, having portrayed serial killer Brian Wicklow in ITV’s Cold Blood and the deranged title character in the theatre production of The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari, and reckons he could also make his mark in soapland.

“Yes, I would like to be in Corrie – I think I’d have to be a baddie… Or even in Emmerdale. I love Emmerdale!” he told This Morning.

Matthew, who was given a rousing send-off by the Coronation Street cast when he left ITV talent show Stars In Their Eyes in 2004, next treads the stage boards in West End musical Lend Me A Tenor, where he plays ‘mad man’ Henry Saunders.

“I saw the workshops for it a year ago and I asked them if I could do it! I play a mad man as per [usual] – and I sing and dance in this as well!” he added.
