She’s rapidly approaching National Treasure status, but British TV comedy star Meera Syal has revealed she’s heading to the US to film a new TV series.
In the late 1990s, Meera, her future husband Sanjeev Bhaskar and their Goodness Gracious Me co-stars changed the face of British sketch comedy with their hilarious take on the clash between British and Indian cultures.
Now Meera, who is starring in a one-off Goodness Gracious Me special to mark BBC2’s 50th birthday (Monday, May 26, BBC2), is heading Stateside to rub shoulders with some of American comedy’s biggest names.
“I’m going off to LA to record a comedy series called The Brink for HBO with Jack Black, Tim Robbins and Austin Powers director Jay Roach,” says the 52-year-old, who will also feature in the next series of Sky Arts comedy Psychobitches.
“It’s about CIA agents in Pakistan, and very dark and funny, like M*A*S*H.”
