Britain’s Got Talent judge David, 44, has a long association with Sport Relief. In 2006 he swam the English Channel. Two years later, it was the Strait of Gibraltar, when David swam from Spain to Morocco.

For Sport Relief 2012, he swam the length of the Thames.
Sport Relief 2016 will also see Idris Elba star as Luther in a one-off sketch which will reunite him with Ruth Wilson. The acclaimed actor will wear his character’s famous overcoat to uncover a serious case of hilarity with Ruth, who plays nemesis Alice Morgan in the BBC One crime drama.
As super sleuth Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, Idris will also be joined by Sir Lenny Henry, former England footballers Rio Ferdinand and Ian Wright, boxer David Haye, Olympians Denise Lewis and Louis Smith and actress Cecilia Noble.

Other highlights include Michael Crawford, who has revived disaster-prone Frank Spencer alsongside Michele Dotrice, who played Frank’s long-suffering wife Betty for a special Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em sketch.

The star-studded segments are part of a weekend of fundraising on the BBC.
The live extravaganza will be broadcast from London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Friday March 18, and presented by top names in sport and entertainment including Claudia Winkleman, Alesha Dixon and Davina McCall, with David Walliams also taking on presenting duties.
Viewers will be treated to live events from Lee Valley VeloPark and London Aquatics Centre throughout the night.
