As Misfits returns for its fourth series, star Joe Gilgun talks six-foot rabbits and possible romance. But he’s keeping schtum about those powers…

It’s all change this series, isn’t it?
“Yes, some of the old gang have left and we’ve got some new characters, Jess, Finn and Alex. The characters have got to change eventually – no one gets a life sentence of community service!”

Did you miss not working with Lauren Socha, Antonia Thomas and Iwan Rheon this time round?
“Yeah, I missed them terribly, but I still had Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, who plays Curtis, who’s just the loveliest man in the world. And the new cast are brilliant – I love them to bits.”

What does your character, Rudy, make of the new kids on the block?
“Rudy and Finn (played by Nathan McMullen) become a bit of a double act, which turns into a real bromance. It’s been nice for me having someone to bounce laughs off.”

And what about new girl Jess, played by Karla Crome. Could we see some romance for Rudy?
“Absolutely not! I think Rudy’s terrified of her and rightly so because she’s a clever girl, who’s not to be messed with at all. That said, Rudy does fall in love with someone for the first time in his life – but he doesn’t like it.”

There’s also a new barman, Alex, who’s been dubbed the sexiest man on the estate. Does that make Rudy a bit jealous?
“Not all all. I don’t think Rudy understands jealousy – anyone on earth is sexier than Rudy. Matt Stokoe, who plays Alex, is potentially the sexiest man on the face of the earth, possibly the universe!”

Let’s talk powers… is there still two of you this series?
“I’ve been sworn to secrecy, so you’ll just have to watch it. All I can say is that Rudy is still a total plonker who gets into multiple scrapes wherever he goes – and with whoever he meets.”

What spooky characters do the Misfits come into contact with this series?
“Well, there’s a six-foot killer rabbit, that’s linked to the drug acid, and the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse. They appear when Rudy falls in love.”

Did you enjoy filming this series?
“Yes, I did. I enjoyed the ‘newness’ that the new characters and new storylines brought to it. This series is definitely a lot spookier than the last, but there’s more comedy as well. It’s been a good laugh!”

Misfits returns to E4 on Sunday, October 28 at 10pm.
