Racy drama Mistresses has been re-commissioned for a second series, it has been confirmed.

Stars Sarah Parish, Sharon Small, Orla Brady and Shelley Conn will be reprising their roles in the hit BBC1 show as four 30-something friends on a turbulent quest to find true love.

Viewers were hooked as Jessica (Shelley Conn) found love with lesbian bride Alex, doctor Katie (Sarah Parish) had an affair with a patient, and Trudi (Sharon Small) realised her dead husband was very much alive and well.

Douglas Rae, executive producer and MD of makers Ecosse Films, said: “The response to Mistresses has been phenomenal. In the new series we will learn a great deal more about Katie, Trudi, Siobhan and Jessica as well as the men, and women, in their lives.”

He added: “We are planning plenty more surprises and maybe even a couple of new faces will be joining the cast – watch this space!”

Julie Gardner, Head of BBC Drama Wales, said: “We are delighted to be working with Ecosse Films on the second series of Mistresses.

“The first series really struck a chord with the BBC audience and we’re thrilled to be welcoming the characters back so we can further enjoy the thrills and spills of their messy, romantic lives.”

Mistresses will start filming in September 2008 for transmission in 2009 on BBC1.
