MK1 become first group to leave X Factor

MK1 have become the third act to exit The X Factor 2012 – with Gary Barlow narrowly avoiding losing yet another of his acts after they lost out to Kye sones in the sing-off.

The duo – consisting of Charlotte Rundle and Simeon Dixon – fell foul of the deadlock vote once again after both they and Kye found themselves in the bottom two for the first time.

And after both had performed in the sing-off – with MK1 singing The Script’s The Man Who Can’t Be Moved and Kye opting for Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me – the judges once again appeared unable to decide who should be saved.

After both Louis – MK1’s mentor – and Tulisa had opted to save them, both Gary and Nicole Scherzinger voted for Kye – with Gary telling his Kye his performance had been “one of the best sing-offs I have ever seen on this show”.

As a result the vote reverted back to deadlock – and MK1 were sent packing after a deadlock result revealed them to have polled the lowest number of votes from the public.

However the pair remained gracious in defeat. “We had the best time and thank you to everyone who did vote,” Charlotte said.

“What we have achieved is amazing and we’ll go forward coming out of this,” added bandmate Simeon.

Meanwhile mentor Louis Walsh added, “These kids are brilliant to work with, the more I work with them the more I love them.”

However it was Tulisa who appeared more upset at the loss of the duo – whom she had saved on account of their similarity to her own band N-Dubz.

MK1 from the second I saw you guys, you remind me of N-Dubz, you touch a soft spot for me.

“Kye that was an amazing performance, but MK1 you got up and sang a song that N-Dubz do on tour and that was the final straw for me,” she said.

“If I don’t stick up for my urban N-Dubz roots here, I’d be lying to myself.”

The singer was also visibly distraught as the result was announced, burying her head in her hands when it became apparent that MK1 would be going home.

Nine acts including favourites Ella Henderson and Jahmene Douglas made it through to next weekend’s show.

Kye’s reprieve means that Gary Barlow still has two acts remaining along with Christopher Maloney, who made it straight through to next week on public vote – amid rumours that he has topped the public vote for the past fortnight despite being heavily tipped to leave.

MK1’s departure also means that Louis Walsh now only has two acts remaining – District 3 and Union J, while both Tulisa and Nicole have yet to lose any of their acts.
