Geri Halliwell leaves her fellow judges lost for words in the new series of The X Factor this Saturday.

They struggled to get a word in edgeways with the former Spice Girl marking her appearance as a guest judge on the ITV1 show with a stream of non-stop chatter.

Louis Walsh complained that she ‘talks and talks’ after she stood in for Dannii Minogue at the Glasgow audition.

The show returns for its seventh series with its trademark mixture of the tone-deaf, the genuinely talented and a host of sob stories.

But it is Geri who caught the eye of show bosses, who compiled a montage of her breathless opinions for the first episode, which was screened on Thursday at the launch of the show aiming to find a star to follow Leona Lewis and Joe McElderry.

Judging by the reaction of her fellow judges, the constant references to her time in the Spice Girls and off-the-cuff advice to contestants about their ‘tone’ soon wore thin.

At one point Louis moaned to the cameras that ‘Geri talks and she talks – some of it makes sense, not all of it’.

After watching a particularly poor act, Geri said: “I don’t know what to say,” to which Louis retorted: “That’s a first.”

Bookmakers have already installed Dannii as favourite to be crowned the winning mentor despite her absence from the early episodes. She is 9-4 favourite, followed by Simon and Cheryl, and Louis Walsh as the 4-1 outsider.

*The new series of The X Factor begins at 7.30pm on Saturday on ITV1.
