Dr Ranj Singh is joining Strictly Come Dancing - the seventh star to be announced so far

Dr Ranj Singh, famed for his appearances on CBeebies and This Morning, is the latest star to be confirmed for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Dr Ranj, one of the resident doctors on This Morning, has actually topped a survey of 3,003 UK mums by Families Online as they’re number one secret “crush”.

Dr Ranj, who created the award-winning CBeebies series Get Well Soon, said: “I’m so overwhelmed and excited to be part of this wonderful show. It’s an absolute dream come true for me! I’ve been a massive fan for so long, and I can’t quite believe this is happening, but I’m going to give it my best shot. Anyone that knows me knows that I love a bit of sparkle… so bring on the glitter! I can’t wait!!”

Dr Ranj still works shifts in A & E and the intensive care unit at his local hospital. He took part in Loose Women’s MyBodyStories men’s campaign to raise awareness of male body image issues alongside the likes of former Coronation Street star Shayne Ward.

The medic has also appeared on a huge number of TV shows including Pointless Celebrities, Inside Out, Watchdog, as well as co-hosting ITV’s Save Money: Good Health. And he’s read a CBeebies bedtime story!

The news was announced on the ITV morning show by presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes. He said on the show: “My friends would describe me as a cross between dad-dancing and go-go dancing.

“I do like dancing but I’ve never been formally trained. It’s one of my favourite things to do and I really want to learn to dance properly.”

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing, expected to return in early September, will see presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman return, along with judges Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli, Dame Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel Horwood.

The line-up so far is former cricketer Graeme Swann, TV presenter Katie Piper, Steps singer Faye Tozer, Red Dwarf actor Danny John-Jules, YouTube star Joe Sugg, DJ Vick Hope and, of course, Dr Ranj Singh.
