Natalie Gumede says she’d love to do comedy – or Strictly Come Dancing – following her departure from Coronation Street.
The actress, currently on screen as violent Kirsty Soames, has left Coronation Street following her dark domestic violence storyline with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).
Asked what she’d like to do next, Natalie said: “I think it would be great to do a comedy after such an intense role… It would be nice to do something light-hearted and show I’m not as nasty as Kirsty.”
When co-star Antony Cotton (Sean Tully) piped up ‘or Starlight Express’, Natalie agreed: “Or Starlight Express or Strictly.”
She added she was ‘a huge fan’ of the BBC1 show and asked whether she was making a pitch for the next series, Natalie confessed: “We are a little bit, shameless plug.”
Speaking at the Tric Awards, where Corrie won best soap, Natalie said the win was ‘the icing on the cake’ after filming her final scenes two weeks ago.
She said: “It was a healthy time to let her (Kirsty) go… We told the story. It was the right time.”
The actress added: “It’s a strange time… It’s been an amazing 18 months for me and it’s a fantastic transition for me to make from a wonderful show.
“I have moved down to London and I’m just taking a moment to breathe before taking the next step.”
