In her first month of a reported million-pound contract, news anchor Natasha Kaplinsky has boosted Five’s 5pm news audience by 72 per cent.

Natasha, 35, drew a million viewers to her first 5pm show – and it appears she has retained most of these viewers.

The Mirror reports that an average 847,000 are watching her 5pm magazine news shows, despite some initial criticism of the ‘fluffy’ style. Her 7pm show is watched by an average 400,000, which is 43 per cent more than watched Five at this time a month ago.

Natasha said: “It’s great news. The ratings are a real credit to what the team is doing here.

“The highlight for me so far was spending the day with Gordon Brown.”
