Nicky Clarke’s time on Channel 4’s newest celebrity reality show The Jump has proven short-lived, after he was eliminated in the very first edition of the series.
The Davina McCall-fronted show sees 12 famous faces competing in a string of winter sports challenges – including skiing, skating and bobsleighing – in the run-up to the Winter Olympics.
However Nicky – who took to the slopes in the giant slalom round as the six male participants made their competitive debut – missed out after finding himself in the bottom two with 5ive singer Ritchie Neville.
The pair then faced off in a ski-jump challenge – but Ritchie’s 11m jump was enough to beat Nicky’s 9.5m, keeping him in the competition and knocking Nicky out.
He later described his time on the show as a ‘great experience’, saying ‘I did my best.’
Sunday’s show also estblished Sir Steve Redgrave as an early favourite after he aced the slalom in an impressive 39.30 seconds.
The OIympic gold medallist and one-time member of the England bobsleigh team, said afterwards: “This is one of my best courses so I am pleased.”
Comedian Marcus Brigstocke, with a time of 44.75, finished in second place on Sunday’s show.
Club promoter Henry Conway and former cricketer Darren Gough also took part in the first heat.
The Jump continues on Channel 4 on Monday night at 8pm.
