No more Extras, says Gervais

Ricky Gervais has said he will never bring back his hit comedy show Extras – despite being bombarded with requests from stars wanting to appear.

The funnyman told The Sun that Sylvester Stallone had called his agent asking to star in the next series – and that a host of A-listers, including Drew Barrymore, Susan Sarandon and Laurence Fishburne had approached him about the show at the Golden Globes.

However he admits he turned them all down.

“The people coming up and asking to be in Extras was just depressing,” Gervais said.

“It was amazing and I was thinking of storylines for them. It’s crazy the things we could do. But it was never about the A-Listers we could get.”

Gervais added that the timing would now be wrong for another series.

“We had to do it straight away,” he said, “or forever hold our peace.”

Ben Stiller, Robert de Niro, Samuel L Jackson, Daniel Radcliffe and recent Oscar winner Kate Winslet are among those who did make guest appearances in the show.
