Paul O’Grady has said that people need to stop talking about the fate of Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand and focus on the bigger things happening in the world.

Both Ross and Brand caused a stir earlier this week when it was revealed that they had made a series of offensive prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs on Brand’s Radio 2 show on Saturday night.

Speaking at the National Television Awards 2008, chat show host Paul said: “I think it’s about time we all moved on really. I think there are far more important issues at stake than a radio show on a Saturday night and two comics saying silly things.”

He added: “Yes, it’s well out of order but it’s not a hanging offence. Why’s the prime minister getting involved? Shouldn’t he be worrying about the war in Afghanistan, the credit crunch, knife crime.”

Paul was celebrating later in the evening when The Paul O’Grady Show won Most Popular Entertainment Programme at the National Television Awards 2008.
