Olivia Colman says she’s ‘a chicken’ when it comes to dealing with people who recognise her on the street.
The Broadchurch actress sprang to fame in Peep Show and is about to feature in ITV drama The Suspicions Of Mr Whicher.
“I don’t look up much!” she said of how she deals with being famous. “I don’t enjoy that bit. I do find it strange that faces you don’t recognise stare at you. Coming up in the lift just now, there were two girls grinning at each other and I thought, ‘I don’t know if that’s me, or one of them’s f***ed’ and then they went, ‘Scuse me, we’re loving Broadchurch!’ It’s always nice, I don’t know why I’m such a chicken about it.”
Despite her success – Oliva is in the running for two Baftas on Sunday (BBC1) – the actress is not confident about her abilities.
She said of auditions: “It’s the best bit and then you’ve got to do the job and you worry you’re going to do it badly.”
The Suspicions Of Mr Whicher: The Murder In Angel Lane screens on ITV on Sunday, May 12.
